About Us

Americana is said to be a melting pot of several American music genres. Denver-based group Bison Bone embraces the melting pot proudly, blending hypnotic melodies of the pedal steel, keys and alt-country guitar tones. Upon hearing this new EP, listeners are greeted with a sound that moves, that's made to travel. Muscular but vulnerable, warm & worn-in, it's a blue vinyl booth, a waiting barstool; the songs are rooms to be walked into. Whatever part of the world's gone wrong or busted, let music be a source to mend it, then mend it: the windows rolled down, the radio up high.
"Lead vocalist Courtney Whitehead has a warm rasp, humility, and humor that calls to mind Warren Zevon and fellow Coloradan Jon Snodgrass. The five songs on 40 Grit prove Bison Bone’s mettle as serious students of alt-country — and torchbearers for what’s to come." - Adobe and Teardrops
"Confessional yet also poetic, as Whitehead ranges from his low vibrator to a controlled outpouring. Ripe with choice lyrical nuggets and a rich musical foundation, singer Courtney Whitehead has a strong vocal presence, reminiscent of greats Terry Allen and Guy Clark." - Glide Magazine
"The elegantly orchestrated music pulls you into intimate and vividly observed moments. They are the stuff of real life that anchor your memories and stay with you for a lifetime. Whitehead seems skilled in putting together his own experiences in contexts that can resonate with people who recognize the psychological and emotional truth in a well crafted narrative enmeshed in music." - Queen City Sounds
